Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) is a strategy of financial investment which evaluates not only the profitability but also the social and environmental impact of a business.
In general, companies that use sustainability criteria to manage their businesses adapt better to social and environmental change through management of risks which could impact their ability to create long-term value.
Socially responsible investors often favour investment in companies included in the "sustainability indexes".

In 2009 Fiat SpA has been recognised as a leader in Sustainability with its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World and in Dow Jones Sustainability STOXX Indexes receiving a score of 90/100 compared with an average of 72/100 for all companies in the sector evaluated by SAM, the investment group which specialises in Sustainability Investing.

The DJSI World and the DJSI STOXX are the most prestigious stock market indexes measuring performance in the area of corporate responsibility and only admit companies which are best-in-class in managing their businesses according to sustainability criteria. In fact, only companies which are leaders in terms of economic as well as social and environmental performance are included.

Distinction awarded to companies whose score is within 5% of the sector leader.
Distinction awarded by SAM, the sustainability-focused investment group, to the companies in each sector which demonstrate the greatest improvement in sustainability performance over the previous year
